DAN DAMON
Dennis Johnson is probably best known in JFO as a piano accompanist. At his very first camp, he experienced a demonstration of unconditional love which has kept him coming back ever since. Since retiring as a teacher of English as a Second Language to adults in San Francisco, he and his wife Marsha have been living in the Gold Country near Placerville, CA. 2024 PROGRAM LEADERS: JULY 21 - 26
SPEAKER:
DAVE GATTEY
A non-denominational Christian camp that welcomes all ages for
spiritual growth in an atmosphere of unconditional love and acceptance.
2024 CAMP THEME: Opening to Limitless Possibilities
I grew up attending CFO camps on the east coast since I was 4 years old. I had an interrupt in attendance as a young adult but, when I had young children of my own, my heart pulled me back, knowing how integral my own camp experiences were to my spiritual development and how rare and precious the experience of this community of love is. I have been attending this camp since 1988. I am looking forward to providing everyone the opportunity to have fun exploring the creative expression of their spirit through a variety of materials and mediums.

Dave Gattey is an ordained American Baptist minister and a licensed therapist. He has been a youth leader and a speaker at many JFO/CFO camps over 50 years. Dave’s spiritual journey has led him from a relatively conservative approach to a more ecumenical and open understanding of our journey. If there is a key, constant theme, it would be that gratitude is the path. Dave enjoys baking, cooking, currently wood carving, and being active in his community. Dave was widowed two years ago and has one son and two grandchildren. He believes that it is in our relationships with others that we find ourselves, that our calling is to be loving toward ourselves and toward others. He looks forward to sharing with us.
Marta Knapstad Narlesky grew up watching her
mother lead songs at camp, often being pulled up to help with hand motion songs. She learned early the power of music to weave us together in love and harmony. It is now her great joy to sing with you; old songs, new songs, peppy songs, prayer songs, in Helgesson Hall, around the campfire, or on the path. Singing is one of her favorite ways to experience the Joy that is God.
SONG LEADER:
MARTA KNAPSTAD NARLESKY
I've been attending camp for over 30 years. One of my favorite things about camp is Rhythms. I love being out amongst the Redwoods feeling and moving in the spirit together. Can't wait to see you all on the Rhythms field!
Dan Damon is a jazz pianist, a hymnwriter, and an editor with Hope Publishing Company. His recordings are on Amazon, YouTube, and your
